Back in 1955, as a sophomore my father was the starting center for his high school basketball team: The Sugar-Salem Beetdiggers. Naturally long arms, big hands, tall and quick he was a formidable foe for the opposing teams in his league. Naturally quiet as a teen he led by example.
Throughout his life he continued to be a leader by example. He was a doer, a hard worker yet very gentle. His humor was legendary. As was his dashing good looks.
Six years ago Dad died in his sleep. We were so grateful the way he went. As a master of building crazy high scaffolding to do his work, we worried constantly that he would fall. Not to be. After a week of being really sick he quietly asked me about some songs his Mother used to sing to him as a boy and if I could compile them for him to listen to. I compiled it and gave it to him. Days later he passed. I suspect his sweet Mom, Carma (who had passed 30 years prior) was with him the week before his own passing.
Now, I'm left with a reverse memory. As I look at my oldest son Brent (named after his father and grandfather) I see a young man very similar to the one that played for Sugar-Salem high school all those years ago.

Sarah Makes Varsity Softball Team As A Freshman!
Excitement in our house today as Sarah earned a Varsity letter playing in her first varsity softball game against Kuna High School. Sarah was brought up to varsity mid-season because of her great arm and amazing speed on the base path. After today's double-header Coach Martin of the Wood River Lady Wolverines took Sarah aside and said, "Well Sarah, you've earned a varsity letter."
Just look at that smile. Crazy beautiful!!
Good Job Seabou!

Still Bitter
Here's a phenomenon at my house that only involves me:
When ever I enter our family room I have to be careful. If Arrow (the toothless dog) happens to be on our couch and our eyes happen to meet (thus exposing her doing something she shouldn't) I have to avert my eyes and back out of the room immediately. If the dog and I are looking at each other and I take a step forward she will begin to piddle. The closer I get the more she piddles! If I so much as raise an eyebrow....piddle. Aaaaaggghghhh!! It is best if I just avert my eyes, slowly back out and get someone else to remove the dog.
It's not all bad though. With Arrow's loss of teeth I have decided to turn it into a positive. I've made these three necklaces from her teeth and they are doing quite well on eBay!

Arrow's Mid-Life Crisis
Arrow, our dachshund has lost yet another tooth. This brings the total of lost teeth to 47. Arrow is only 7 years old which in dogs years equals 43. Pretty young to be losing all of your teeth. One thing that they don't tell you when buying a Dachshund is that this particular breed always has bad breath. I'm not talking bad like other dogs. I'm talking the queen of all bad breath! Now that she has lost all of those teeth her breath has gone from bad to super-heinous.
Though 43 and almost toothless (not me-the dog) I've decided to post a picture of a happier time (cue the violin music). A time when she was a new mommy. Presented here for your enjoyment is a picture of three of Arrow's puppies. Ah, those were the days!
The salad years.
